Description
This is a Anytime Learning (asynchonous) course for the Health and Safety Pre-service for Child Care Centers course. This series based course intended for new providers covers the health and safety requirements from the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF). CCDF topics include the following: Prevention and control of infectious disease, immunization, administration of medication, prevention of and response to emergencies due to allergies and allergic reactions, building and physical premise safety, handling and storage of hazardous materials/disposal bio-contaminants, emergency preparedness and response planning, prevention of abusive head trauma, SIDS/SUID risk reduction, Child Abuse and Neglect- recognition of and reporting mandates, and precautions when transporting children. Per the federal requirements, MN law requires that child care centers have policies and train staff on each of the CCDF topic areas. Child care center staff are required to have training that is specific to the center’s policies prior to starting assigned duties. This training does not meet that requirement. Rather, participants will have the opportunities to have an overview of these federal requirements which will deepen their understanding of their center specific policies. In addition to the CCDF topics, we will also explore MN Rule 3 licensing standards and best practices around supervision challenges experienced by child care centers.
