Analyze the concepts, goals, and possible outcomes of becoming a mentor and mentoring in early childhood programs. Examine the roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentees and the difference between mentoring and supervision. Understand and apply the ethical principles of mentorship, adult learning theory, the importance of appreciative advising and the role of reflection in the mentoring process. This is the first course in the two-part Mentoring in Early Childhood series.

As a result of active participation in course activities, learners will be able to:
1. Explain the concepts, goals, and possible outcomes of mentoring.
2. Identify competencies associated with mentoring.
3. Describe the roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentees.
4. Apply ethical principles to the context of mentoring.
5. Apply adult learning theory and stages of teacher development to mentoring.
6. Explain the difference between mentoring and supervision.
7. Describe the cycle of appreciative advising applied to mentoring interactions
8. Describe the role of reflection in mentoring.
