This online, live course is intended for those who are earning a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Applicable CDA portfolio homework is embedded in the course. Join us to learn more about a child care provider’s potential role in promoting children’s growth and development through what we observe and document during our time with them.

Learning Objectives

Differentiate between various observation methods, such as running records, checklists, frequency counts, anecdotal records, work samples, and learning stories.

Demonstrate the ability to conduct an Anecdotal Record, Class List Log, Checklist, Frequency Count, Rating Scale or Work Sample capturing detailed and objective accounts of children's behavior.

Analyze observation data to make informed decisions about curriculum adjustments and teaching strategies.

Plan curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and responsive to children's interests and needs based on observation data.

List early signs of developmental delays in children

Identify intervention strategies tailored to individual children's needs

Identify when and where to refer for screening and/or assessment.

List resources and services for children with special needs including eligibility criteria and how to support families in accessing these services

Define the difference between an IFSP and an IEP

Identify ways to create goals that are tailored to the individual needs of the child and family
